Spring is "springing" here in the Twin Cities and soon the landscape will be ablaze of vibrant colors, from tulips to lilac, the drab colors of winter will be replaced with bright happy colors. But the Spring landscape can also present a darker, more sophisticated palette that is often ignored or under represented.
As an illustrator/fine artist, I find that the colors of the surrounding landscape can be quite inspirational in selecting season-appropriate color palettes for both my illustration and design. Spring in the upper mid-west can be filled with darker, bolder colors, especially in the storm clouds that float by. They can cast dramatic shadows over the bright, traditional hues of spring, and make for a dramatic and refined color palette that can add visual interest and layered emotion to your design and illustrations.
